SCYAP Extends its Services to the Homeless:

SCYAP's Art Centre has become a hub for many of Saskatoon's homeless who frequent the Centre during the evening, late night and early morning hours. The venue provides a place for them to engage in art related activities, computer and internet services, life coaching, and employment related services.

Saskatoon Fire Prevention Services Seeks New Initiative With SCYAP:

We are currently in the process of developing a collaborative initiative that will benefit the Saskatoon community youth at risk. It is our hope that this initiative will also provide further exposure to both agencies.

CORPORATE GIFTS

SCYAP has been busy designing and creating many special gifts for a wide variety of clients. Here are just a few of our recent initiatives:

2010 IIHF World Junior Championship

Recipients of the Player of the Game Award at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship didn’t bring home any old medal. Thanks to the efforts of Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming (SCYAP) Inc., winners received their very own piece of unique art.

SCYAP was approached by Hockey Canada because of recognition the organization received for 1,300 special gifts they created for musicians at the 2007 Juno Awards.

For the WJHC award, the SCYAP design team set about creating an original design that would appeal to participants. The base of the award represents a typical Saskatchewan pond; each sculptural piece rising from that base is a highly-stylized version of the northern lights that is unique in form and colour. Each award also depicts an abstract pewter hockey figure.

“We wanted something different that evokes memories, a feeling of kids playing hockey for the love of the sport,” said Deborah Hamp, who manages the corporate gift line at SCYAP. “With the base being a pond, it represents the idea that any kid can play, and that was at the heart of our design.”

As an added bonus, the award was also enclosed in a black leather duffel bag, made of local elk hide, which SCYAP believes players will use in their future travels, allowing them to receive continuous recognition for their achievements.

“It’s a gift within a gift; it’s practical, beautiful, and best of all, it is Saskatchewan made,” said Hamp. “We’re delighted that we could deliver a high-quality product for Hockey Canada that carries a low carbon footprint, supports social enterprise and highlights design and manufacturing capabilities within our province.” Thank you, Hockey Canada!

Tourism Saskatoon: Trails of 1885: Travel Writer’s Convention in Whistler, British Columbia

SCYAP was thrilled to collaborate with Tourism Saskatoon on an order of two hundred and twenty leather book jackets and three hundred and fifty leather bookmarks for their Go Media Event held in Whistler, B.C. Custom dyed burnt sienna elk hide was sewn into a unique design that encased eco- friendly hard cover notebooks. These book covers were a huge hit-even the Premier received one. Artist Tyrone Masuskapoe design, entitled “Strength of Spirit” provided a powerful image of resilience for the black leather bookmarks. Thank you, Tourism Saskatoon!

SIGN AND DESIGN

Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies

SCYAP is absolutely delighted with the strong partnership that is being developed with SIIT. SCYAP has designed and created dozens of special gifts, signage, vinyl way-finding, and even faux rock directories for SIIT. In addition to purchasing our products and services, SIIT has provided opportunities for SCYAP graduates to gain public speaking experience, has commissioned individual artists for calendars, provided hands on interviewing skills for Urban Canvas participants, and strong overall support for our many programs and projects. Thank you, SIIT!

The Naked Angus Restaurant and Confectionery, Aberdeen SK

Aberdeen's newest restaurant and confectionery contracted SCYAP for all of their commercial signage. This is just another recent example of SCYAP's partnership with private business and its continuous emphasis on youth and community economic development.
